Our aim is to encourage whānau to accept help and support from their local community - just like our grandparents did! Parenting is hard work, so why not take all the help that’s offered? Let’s all help each other out and build a stronger community in the process.
At Bellyful, we know how hard those first few months with a newborn can be – and that’s before adding other children or career demands to the mix! Since 2009, Bellyful volunteers have nourished and connected communities by cooking and delivering meals to whānau, with babies or young children, who need support. Having a few meals delivered by a friendly face can be a real sanity-saver.
Bellyful volunteers prepare the food in a monthly ‘Cookathon’, freeze them and then deliver them over the next few weeks to families who are referred by health professionals, family and friends. You can also refer yourself!
We don’t need to go through stressful times alone – and we know that having a new baby or a sick family member can make life tough! Having someone pop around with a couple of cooked meals can go a long way toward easing the stress.
