Our vision is to give the people of Coastal Taranaki access to local health care and social service provisions that enhance the well-being of the whole community.
In June 2006 a group of concerned people came together to ensure there would be a primary health and medical facility in Opunake for the benefit of the Coastal Taranaki Community and so The Coastal Taranaki Health Trust was established.
After hosting a successful community meeting to provide general information on nutrition plus drugs and alcohol, the Trust went into recess in 2008. During 2010 The Trust was approached by a local person who asked for their support in a proposal to seek funding under the umbrella of the Coastal Taranaki Health Care pilot programme for youth and adult mental health in the South Taranaki Area.
Opunake's current GP had also contacted The Trust explaining the difficulties in providing appropriate medical care for the community in his existing premises which were leased to him and subject to landbank conditions. Attracting more Doctors to the rural location along with the existing Medical buildings poor state of repair was also becoming a major concern.
PHO restructuring was underway, and funding was being directed into communities so it became an ideal time to look at a facility that could bring all the various umbrella groups under one roof in an integrated purpose built facility. Construction began on the 900sqm building in May 2014 with work completed in April 2015. For Coastal Taranaki it represents a true hub or one-stop shop of health and wellbeing.
