Vision
Learning to survive, thrive and save lives.
Purpose
To empower the next generation of community-minded volunteers.
YSAR mandate
Youth development to train young, gender and ethnicity diverse, volunteers for Search and Rescue and Emergency Management while creating amazing future leaders.
YSAR address’s several needs:
- Youth development especially Māori and Pasifika teaching and showing life and employment skills in an engaging way outside the classroom while encouraging fitness and building mental health, personal growth, leadership and teamwork.
- Volunteering - the joy of helping others, for a lifetime of giving back. Changing their community for the better
- Instructing how to look after and appreciate the environment that they train in, while improving it with volunteer ecology plantings. We teach about the trees and bush, what they are and the Rongoa uses.
- Long-term impact and changes for Search and Rescue in New Zealand-changing how these organisations look and work, to a young, diverse, tech savvy (embracing new technology-drones etc), workforce to fill the recognised shortage in the volunteer sector.
