Para Kore embraces the tikanga of caring for Ranginui and Papatūānuku. We understand that sending waste to landfills or holes, burning rubbish and littering is a waste of valuable resources, pollutes our environment and is harmful to us all.
Para Kore is working towards embedding zero waste, closed loop living within marae and Māori communities across Aotearoa. This means spreading the word that putting everything in the same black rubbish bag or burning or burying out the back is no longer acceptable.
Para Kore empowers and supports marae and organisations across Aotearoa to reduce waste through the delivery of innovative education and support within the frameworks of kaupapa and tikanga Māori.
We aim to make conscious consumption of local products, reduce, reuse, recycling and composting the unconscious, automatic social norm. Our goal is to create and support the design of systems which produce no waste in the first instance.
While ‘de-normalising’ this throwaway mentality, we aim to normalise the careful consumption of local products, to promote reuse, recycling and composting as standard practices and to nurture and encourage creative new systems which enable sharing of resources. Our ultimate goal is to create and nurture systems which produce no waste in the first instance, and in the meantime ensure that materials previously considered to be waste will instead be seen as a resource.
