Alzheimers Otago works across Otago to support people living with Dementia and their families and Whanau to help them live well with Dementia. Dementia is an umbrella term used to describe a group of symptoms that affects how well our brain works. The most common form of Dementia is Alzheimer's disease.
4 out of 5 New Zealanders know someone with Dementia and, worldwide, someone is diagnosed with Dementia every 4 seconds.
Alzheimer's Otago strives to support those impacted by the condition by working directly with families to ensure people with Dementia and their carers can access the right support at the right time. We currently directly support more than 300 families in the region to help them navigate the day-to-day challenges of living with Dementia.
But we need to do more. With your support, we can provide important programs directly to people with Dementia to help them maintain cognitive function and support them socialise and interact in the community, a vital component of managing the condition.
We are incredibly grateful for your support in helping us achieve a Dementia Friendly Otago.
